StoryArk is a mobile application developed and operated by Wetals Ltd (“we”, “our”, or “the company”). We take your privacy - and your child's privacy - seriously. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

When you use StoryArk, we collect the following information during onboarding:

  • Child's first name - used to personalise greetings within the app (e.g., “Hi Emma!”)
  • Child's age - used to recommend age-appropriate stories
  • Child's gender (optional) - used to tailor the reading experience
  • Reader role - your relationship to the child (e.g., parent, grandparent)
  • Reading challenge - what you find most challenging about Bible stories, to help us improve the experience
  • Story preferences - your selected interests to personalise recommendations
  • Storytime preference - your preferred reading time (e.g., bedtime, breakfast) to schedule optional reminders
  • Notification preferences - whether you opt in to receive reminders

Information Collected Automatically

  • Reading progress - which stories have been started or completed, and current page position
  • Saved stories and favourites - your bookmarked and liked stories
  • Achievement data - badges and sticker passport progress

Information Collected Only With Your Consent

If a parent or guardian enables the “Help Improve StoryArk” option in the app's Settings (Parents' Quarters), we collect anonymous usage data through our analytics provider (PostHog). This may include which stories are opened, completed, or popular, and general app usage patterns. This data is anonymous, aggregated, and cannot be used to identify your child.

This feature is disabled by default. No analytics data is collected or transmitted unless a parent explicitly enables it.

Information We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect your child's full name, surname, or last name
  • We do not collect photos or images of your child
  • We do not collect precise location data
  • We do not collect contact information from children
  • We do not serve advertisements of any kind
  • We do not automatically track your child's behaviour or collect device identifiers without your consent

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely to:

  • Provide a personalised reading experience (greetings, recommendations)
  • Track reading progress so your child can continue where they left off
  • Manage your subscription (if applicable)
  • Improve the app's features and content (only if you have enabled the “Help Improve StoryArk” option in Settings)

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. Data Storage

  • By default, all app data (child's name, reading progress, preferences) is stored locally on your device using secure on-device storage. No personal data is sent to external servers unless you create an account or enable analytics.
  • If you create an account, your profile and progress data is stored securely on our servers to enable syncing across devices
  • Story content (images and audio) is delivered via Cloudflare, a trusted content delivery network. No personal data is included in these requests.
  • We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data

4. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

StoryArk is designed for use by children aged 3–10 with parental involvement. We are committed to protecting children's privacy in accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent regulations.

  • We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide the app experience
  • We do not require children to provide personal information beyond what is needed to use the app
  • A parent or guardian must complete the onboarding process
  • Certain features (such as settings and account management) are protected behind a parent gate
  • Analytics tracking is completely disabled by default. No usage data is collected or sent to any third-party service unless a parent explicitly enables the “Help Improve StoryArk” toggle in the app's Settings
  • When analytics is disabled, our analytics SDK is placed in opt-out mode, meaning no data leaves the device - even though analytics code exists in the app, it is fully silenced

5. Third-Party Services

StoryArk uses the following third-party services:

  • Apple App Store & Google Play Store - for app distribution and in-app purchase processing
  • RevenueCat - for subscription management. RevenueCat processes purchase data provided by Apple and Google to manage your subscription status. No child data is shared with RevenueCat.
  • Authentication provider - for secure account creation and sign-in (only if you choose to create an account)
  • Cloudflare - for secure delivery of story content (images and audio files)
  • PostHog (analytics) - used only if a parent enables the “Help Improve StoryArk” option. Collects anonymous, aggregated usage data such as which stories are popular. No personally identifiable information is shared. Completely disabled by default.

We do not integrate with social media platforms or advertising networks.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct any inaccurate information (you can edit your child's profile directly within the app)
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Export your data upon request
  • Opt out of notifications at any time via the app's Settings
  • Opt out of analytics at any time by disabling “Help Improve StoryArk” in the app's Settings

7. Data Retention

  • We retain your data for as long as your account is active
  • If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days
  • If you have opted in to analytics, anonymised and aggregated data may be retained for analytical purposes even after your account is deleted, as it cannot be linked back to you or your child

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or via email. The “Last updated” date at the top of this policy indicates when it was last revised.
