11“I tell you, arise, take up your mat, and go to your house.” 12He arose, and immediately took up the mat and went out in front of them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”

Core truths

INTERCESSION

Faith isn't just about ourselves. Carrying the heavy mat is a beautiful picture of what it means to pray hard for the people we love.

THE FRIENDSHIP BADGE

Awarded for being a ride-or-die friend who refuses to give up on bringing others to Jesus.

FORGIVENESS

The friends wanted Jesus to "fix" a broken body, but Jesus knew the man needed his heart made completely "new" first.

Why it matters

  • Teaches children the physical, sacrificial cost of true biblical friendship and intercessory prayer.
  • Counters the idea of a "pristine" religion—Jesus welcomes our dusty, messy interruptions with a smile.
  • Brilliantly distinguishes between temporary "fixes" (healing) and eternal renewal (forgiveness of sins).

Let's talk and pray

Talk

The friends had to dig through a hard roof! Why didn't they just give up? Jesus fixed the man's legs, but what better thing did He do first?

Pray

Dear Jesus, thank You that You can fix our bodies and our hearts. Help me to be a friend who doesn't give up, and carry my friends to You in prayer. Amen.
